An (Almost) Bulky Baby Blanket

February 2, 2010

Latest knit completion is a Bulky Baby Blaknet, pattern found on the Purlbee.

I finished this in the car, so didn’t get to take proper photos of it before gifting. The yarn used was Spud & ChloĆ«’s sweater-weight yarn and I should have used the “outer”, which is double thickness. I used two strands held together, but then – that’s what I was supposed to do with the outer. Which means it didn’t turn out as thick and cush as it was supposed to.

The border was knit in sweater, which the pattern called for, and I wasn’t thinking but should have used one strand instead of two. The result was a nice, comfy and plush border, but it was a little TOO thick, I think. It weighted down the rest of the blanket.

Knitting the border was my favorite. It was time consuming but so fun to see how it came together. You knit in stockinette with one row of purl. When you have nine rows, you actually fold it over and the purl row allows for it to easily do this. Binding off is difficult to describe, check out the pattern to see how it ends. There are instructions for a garter rib and seed stitch body.

Sawyer’s Sweater: Completed

July 25, 2009

Baby shower for little miss Sawyer was held today. I finished knitting her sweater last weekend but didn’t block it or add the trim until yesterday. Actually, very pleased with it! Aside from the fact that the dyelot mismatch got in the way, of course.

The pattern (Double Seed Stitch Cardy for Baby, by The Fibre Company) didn’t call for a trim but I felt it needed a little more something for a baby girl. I recently picked up a lightweight wool Malabrigos hand-dyed skein and since it matched the buttons – there you go!

Seed stitch baby sweater

July 7, 2009

A work in progress, this sweater is incredibly easy. It’s knit using straight needles and is a repeating k2, p2 seed stitch. I really like it so far, the texture is pretty and I picked out some turquoise ceramic buttons for the front.

Approx. 8 hours in...

I’ll update again when finished. Pattern is from the Fibre Company, found through Purl Soho’s website.
